Why Did Sarra Kill Her Mother?
American activist and supporter of murder victims was Mari Gilbert.
Gilbert fought for her daughter Shannan, a 24-year-old New Jersey resident who vanished in May 2010.
Throughout the course of the investigation into Shannan’s abduction, the remains of 10 murder victims were found dispersed over New York’s Ocean Parkway.
Detectives concluded that Shannan died of an accidental drowning unrelated to the killings of the Long Island serial murderer.
Still, Gilbert questioned the result and campaigned to get the case reopened as a murder investigation.
Gilbert’s family requested an independent autopsy, and the results revealed that Shannan might have been strangled to death.
Gilbert frequently went on TV shows to discuss the issue with her other daughters, Sarra and Sherre.
Sarra, her daughter, who is 27 years old, fatally stabbed her mother, Gilbert, on July 23, 2016, in Ellenville, New York, in Sarra’s apartment complex on Warren Street.
Her daughter suffered from schizophrenia, with one source suggesting that she “heard voices in her head urging her to carry out the act.”
Sarra was given a 25-year prison term in August 2017 after being found guilty of second-degree murder and fourth-degree possession of a weapon by a murderer.
The Bedford Hills Correctional Institution for Women is where she is detained.
